The call for the ANC’s entire national executive committee (NEC) to step down, made by ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu, has ratcheted up the noise a good few decibels. It is unprecedented that an individual serving in ANC structures should speak out of his own accord. He was matched yesterday by ANC Youth League secretary-general Njabulo Nzuza’s attack on Cyril Ramaphosa, calling him an unprincipled man for standing by Gordhan. November 2 has become a rallying point. Just as the charges against Jacob Zuma became the stage for the Zuma tsunami, so now will the streets around the courts become the same for Zuma’s opponents.
