President Cyril Ramaphosa has been in New York these past few days, at the UN, a good opportunity for him to press some flesh and talk to investors worried about the ANC’s land reform intentions. When he returns he’ll again run into a wall of problems and pressures, some of his own making. But he should know by now that when in trouble, be seen to be doing something. Ramaphosa introduced his stimulus plan last week and it has gone down fairly well. But SA is hungry for action — for revenge for the corruption of the Zuma years. The first thing he should do back home is encourage the police to arrest the most senior officer of the Bain consulting group in the country, whoever it is. Then charge him and the group under the Corrupt Practices Act. Then freeze Bain’s local bank accounts, seize its South African assets and then request Bain HQ in Boston to please withdraw from our country altogether. Or expel them himself.
