THE provision of books and teacher support material across SA’s schools is still a cause for concern as the shortages of textbooks deprives learners of their constitutional right to a quality basic education, the Public Service Commission (PSC) said on Thursday.This conclusion by the PSC follows snap inspections in January and February to assess the efficiency of the delivery of learning and teaching support material (LTSM) across a selection of schools across the country."The inspection sought to establish whether the ordered LTSM, in particular textbooks, were delivered at the visited schools by the beginning of the 2016 academic year and whether these were sufficient," the PSC said in a statement.According to the commission, generally, the majority (77 out of 99) of the sampled schools in the provinces received their requisitions for textbooks in time for the commencement of the new school year.The Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, North West and the Western Cape recorded th...
