Rural activists have urged delegates to the ANC national congress this weekend to endorse the recommendations on rural rights made by the high-level panel chaired by former deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe. The congress and its policy commissions will adopt resolutions that will guide the ANC for the next five years. The activists and policy analysts who met on Tuesday said that failure to take urgent action could result in an irreversible "elite capture of rural land and further rural dispossession". "The ANC national conference cannot ignore the work of this panel," the national co-ordinator of the Alliance for Rural Democracy, Constance Mogale, said at a media conference.
