Parliament has commended Zimbabwe on the restraint the country displayed during the political crisis that has led to President Robert Mugabe’s resignation. Meanwhile, the portfolio committee on international relations and co-operation has urged the South African government to prepare to support Zimbabwe "in a way that will guarantee social, economic and political stability". The committee’s chairperson, Siphosezwe Masango, said Mugabe’s departure marked the end of an era and offered Zimbabweans the opportunity to deal with the challenges faced by that country. Masango also said SADC, the AU and UN should be ready to provide "collaborative and comprehensive" assistance if called upon.
