Gauteng MEC for Finance Barbara Creecy speaks about the province’s 2016-17 budget and spending priorities. BUSINESS DAY TV: The Gauteng provincial budget for the year ahead has been set at R108bn. That’s a R5bn increase on the previous year. Joining us to discuss where the money will be spent is Gauteng Finance MEC, Barbara Creecy. Barbara, before we get to where the money is going to be spent, let’s take a look at the collections side of things because this year’s budget anchored around improving the province’s revenue collection. That’s going to be a tough feat where Gauteng’s predicted growth now stands at 1.8% for 2017. BARBARA CREECY: Yes, obviously improving our own revenue collection is very important because we have had cuts to our equitable share over the last couple of years. We get most of our revenue from vehicle licences, gambling taxes, patient fees and then some interest on the Treasury accounts.
