The National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) has accused Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini of being more concerned with factional battles in the ANC than with what is happening in her department. On the issue of grant payments meant to be undertaken by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), it said: "Potentially, the disastrous situation related to Sassa, an institution in which we also organise and represent members, underscores the systemic crisis of the dysfunctionality of the department," Nehawu general secretary Bereng Soke told journalists in Johannesburg on Wednesday. "The minister continues to recklessly place vulnerable grant recipients at risk as poor communities squarely depend on the professional services of our members, as she is more concerned also about destructive factional battles in the ANC."
