More people have been receiving social grants since 2010 than there have been people with jobs‚ according to the December edition of the Institute of Race Relations’ Fast Facts. The report shows that there has been a dramatic increase in social grant dependency since 2001‚ when close to 4-million people were receiving social grants compared with 12-million employed people. Since 2010‚ the number of people receiving social grants (15-million)‚ has exceeded the number of employed people (13.8-million). There are currently 17,149,931 grant recipients‚ while the number of working people is 15,545,000.
