The South African Local Government Association (Salga) is considering lobbying for a 10-year demarcation cycle to avoid the political uncertainty that led to protests before 2016’s local elections. The lead-up to local elections saw a number of protests and violence in areas such as Vuwani, Limpopo, were people also boycotted the elections to protest redemarcation, which they said was politically motivated.
