Ismail Vadi says storms did not cause structural damage to Gauteng’s roads
Gauteng MEC for roads and transport Ismail Vadi on Friday confirmed that no provincial roads were structurally damaged as a result of the heavy storms this week‚ although some roads were temporarily closed due to debris. Earlier this week parts of Johannesburg were hard hit by flash floods‚ damaging or washing away cars, damaging homes and resulting in traffic jams‚ six deaths as well as delaying flights. "Thankfully‚ no provincial roads were structurally damaged due to the unusually heavy rainfall and we are monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis‚" said Vadi. He added that the department’s emergency road maintenance teams were on standby to assist the disaster management services in the event of excessive flooding on any provincial or municipal roads.
