THE Mpumalanga provincial government has spent more than R3m on paying suspended officials from eight departments.A statement released by the Democratic Alliance (DA) on Monday said the money was spent on 39 officials, some of whom had not been at work in over a year."A majority of these officials have been at home for over 60 days and some for over 400 days," said Mpumalanga DA leader James Masango.The officials are under "precautionary" suspension.The DA found out about the money the departments had spent in the provincial government's reports for the 2014-15 financial year.The health department spent the highest amount, paying R950,000 to 19 suspended officials.It is followed by the social development department which spent R700,000 on four officials, and the public works, roads and transport department which spent R540,000 on six officials.The community safety security and liaison department spend R500,000 on two officials.The other departments include the education department, ...
