Chinese car maker Shanghai Automotive, the owner of MG, has announced that it will cease production of MG vehicles in the UK. It will not be a surprise to many: after all, the days of MG being proudly British are long gone, but after the big fanfare that the Chinese company would continue to make cars in the UK to honour MG’s history and support the motor industry there, the announcement is rather sad. Still, MG quietly disappeared in SA too, or at least we think so because no-one seems to know if they are still here or not.Then there is poor Lotus. The firm has been like a salmon battling to swim upstream for years now. It was saved by Malaysian car maker Proton, but now that manufacturer is in trouble and its parent company DRM-Hicom is looking to raise cash to support it.
