I WAS privileged to receive a tertiary education at the University of Natal in the 1970s. I had to work on farms during my vacations to supplement my student loan, which I repaid eight years after completing my post-graduate studies.During the past few weeks a minority of students have deemed it their democratic right to destroy infrastructure at universities, the combined value of which is in excess of R600m. I understand that some of them have been arrested and others even suspended from the institutions.We all understand that there is no political leadership in our beloved country, and from this example students think they can do as they please. There have to be consequences for such actions and we, the public, have to hold these anarchists responsible.
