President Cyril Ramaphosa is to meet US president Joe Biden this Friday at the White House. There’ll be much to talk about: trade, investment, the Ukraine war and who gets to sit where at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
I can’t help but imagine that these two leaders might feel an affinity for each other that few others share, both having taken office from men who perpetrated state capture from that highest public position and who understood that office as an entitlement, not service. To their Trump we play our Zuma; their Mar-a-Lago, our Nkandla; the storming of the Capitol; our July unrest...
