A television journalist from Sweden phoned this man from the rolling hills of the Eastern Cape last week and requested a crash course on the Soweto derby. It seems the good folk in Sweden have taken a little more than a passing interest in the biggest football fixture in southern Africa. Johan Ripas’s assignment was to give the people back home an idea of what a Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates fixture is all about. Saturday’s league match between the two was televised in Sweden and in other parts of the world. The Swedes in particular wanted a bit of background to set the scene before the live crossing to Johannesburg. So the Africa correspondent of Swedish National Television — who has been based in this part of the world for two years — came to the Times Media offices in Rosebank with his television camera and proceeded to ask as many questions as he could in the few minutes we had together.
