New public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane paid a courtesy call on President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday. The Presidency said this was their first meeting since Mkhwebane took office in October. "President Zuma congratulated advocate Mkhwebane on her appointment and pledged his and government’s support and co-operation as she fulfils her constitutional responsibilities," said presidential spokesman Bongani Ngqulunga. During the meeting, Zuma reiterated the importance of all chapter nine institutions. "Advocate Mkhwebane thanked the president for the opportunity to meet, and said she looked forward to constructive working relations with government." Earlier this month, Zuma launched a court bid to have the public protector’s state-capture report set aside. He wants the court to order it to be sent back to Mkhwebane for "further investigation".
