President Jacob Zuma has given the clearest indication yet that he will challenge former public protector Thuli Madonsela’s swansong state of capture report, saying no one had the authority to instruct a president to set up a commission of inquiry. "The [state capture] report was dealt with in a very funny manner …. nobody can instruct the president to set up a commission," Zuma said in response to questions in Parliament on Wednesday. He said he was not given a chance to respond to the allegations levelled against him in the report. Zuma has been under fire in recent times for his relationship with the Gupta family. Madonsela raised concerns over his relationship with the family in her contentious report. Madonsela recommended that Zuma establish a commission of inquiry to probe the issues she had identified.
