THE new executive director of the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac), Madoda Vilakazi, assumed his duties on Friday.Mr Vilakazi replaces Alistair Smith and Mahandra Naidoo, who had been in the position in an acting capacity since Mr Smith's resignation in 2014.Mr Vilakazi formerly worked within the trade union movement and the government, and has extensive experience in negotiation, budgeting and business management, Nedlac said on Friday.He has an MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand, and is expected to bring a "dynamic skill set that covers sustainable development strategy, financial expertise and facilitation", Nedlac said.Nedlac was established as a forum for consensus between the government, business, labour and communities on social and economic policy.It has, however, faced criticism and its relevance has been questioned after social partners have failed to reach consensus on key issues such as labour broking or, recently, retirement tax law ref...
