On paper at least, the EFF is headed for an exciting future after showing steady growth. But signs of trouble are emerging.

Alongside other smaller parties such as the late Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s IFP, the EFF has been gaining members, according to a new survey. A recently released poll of registered voters by The Brenthurst Foundation found that support for Julius Malema’s EFF has grown from 11% of the electorate in the 2019 election to 17% now. Put differently, if there were an election tomorrow, this is the percentage of votes it would be expected to garner on the national ballot...
