The interministerial committee on social security will on Tuesday reveal details on an agreement pertaining to the distribution of social grants in 2018. The committee held a meeting on Friday to discuss the plan and to prepare for its briefing to Parliament’s standing committee on public accounts as well as to its portfolio committee on social development Since the Constitutional Court earlier in 2017 invalidated Cash Paymaster Services as a service provider, attempts at planning for more centralised grant provision have been strained at best. The intervention is among the latest attempts at breaking a deadlock between the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) and the South African Post Office, in which Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini has stonewalled the Post Office.
