An initial R1.15m down payment along with R65,000 monthly payments on a bond issued by the Bank of Baroda to President Jacob Zuma’s fourth wife, Bongi Ngema-Zuma, were indeed paid by the Gupta family and their associates, investigative journalist team amaBhungane reported on Tuesday. The leaked Gupta e-mails revealed that R1.15m was transferred to Sinqumo Trust on August 18 2010 by Gupta company Islandsite Investments. Sinqumo Trust, named after the president’s and Ngema-Zuma’s son, purchased a R5.24m house in Waterkloof Ridge in April 2010, which has been the subject of questions about whether it was given as a bribe by the Gupta brothers. "Bank records, accounting records and budgets show the Guptas and Duduzane Zuma paying as much as R3.4m of the bond on the property, after making what appears to be an initial down payment of R1.15m — giving a total of over R4.5m," amaBhungane wrote.
