UN children’s agency Unicef and the Department of Social Development are to implement a community-based care and protection intervention, to reach 1.4-million children. Through a broader cash, care and protection strategy, the two will seek to integrate a digitised case management system with the existing social assistance information management system. There are an estimated 12.8-million beneficiaries receiving the monthly R380 child support grant, and these children would be linked to the Safe Parks and Isibindi model. Following the Unicef’s board’s visit to SA last week, the international organisation committed to optimising child-friendly services and leveraging resources for children receiving social services grants in the country.
