ONE would not normally associate the once slow and sleepy town of Knysna with anything to do with fast cars and motor racing. However, with the passage of time, all that has changed. The days of family-run shops closing at lunchtime, banks closing on Wednesday afternoons and being able to park right outside your chosen shopping venue, are all things of the past.While retaining much of its village feel, Knysna is no longer the small, backwater that it was. In keeping with the fast pace of the rest of the world, it has entered a new era. May sees the holding of the Knysna Speed Festival when thousands of car enthusiasts descend on the town to enjoy a number of car-related activities such as the Jaguar Simola Hillclimb (16-18 May).
