HOPES that the government might still adjust the e-tolling system in Gauteng to ease the burden for motorists were revived on Thursday when Gauteng premier David Makhura announced an advisory panel to assess the socioeconomic effects of the system.However, he did not call the assessment a "review".Earlier talk of a pending "review" during the state of the province address almost set Mr Makhura on a collision course with the national government as the province can only make recommendations.E-tolling is the competency of the central government, and a change of legislation can be made only by the Cabinet.Speaking at a media briefing at his office in Johannesburg on Thursday, Mr Makhura said the panel had the support of the African National Congress (ANC) and the government.
