PROF Fiona Tregenna, a part-time member of the Competition Tribunal, who is also a member the South African Communist Party (SACP), will not be appointed to serve on any panel by the tribunal until there is legal certainty about her position.The Department of Economic Affairs confirmed on Thursday that it was seeking a legal opinion. The Competition Act disqualifies any person who is an office bearer of a political party from simultaneously serving as a tribunal member.Prof Tregenna is a member of the central committee of the SACP. She was appointed by President Jacob Zuma as a part-time member in September 2013. The department said she was not an office bearer but it was still getting a legal opinion on the matter.Meanwhile, Prof Tregenna would not be appointed on any tribunal panel, chairman Norman Manoim said.Prof Tregenna was removed as a member of the panel that was about to hear the complaint against Media24 when the media house objected to her membership of the central commit...
