The South African passport is the most valuable in Africa, according to the latest edition of a global index. The passport index by Arton Capital, a residence and citizenship consultancy, ranks national passports by the cross-border access they offer, assigning a "visa-free score", according to the number of countries a passport holder can visit visa-free or by obtaining a visa on arrival. Germany is the top ranked country in the world, with a visa-free score of 157. Singapore overtakes South Korea and becomes the highest-ranked Asian passport, with a visa-free score of 156 — second in the world. The rest of the top 10 includes: Sweden, Denmark, Finland, France, Spain, Switzerland, Norway and the UK. SA is the leading nation in Africa, with a score of 90, which ranks the country 49th on the overall table, followed by Botswana, with a score of 69, Lesotho with a score of 66 and Malawi with a score of 65.
