SA AND the EU had signed a declaration to co-operate in marine research and innovation, the department for science and technology said on Tuesday.This was expected to contribute to SA’s implementation of Operation Phakisa, launched by government two years ago to exploit the ocean economy to help grow the country’s economy.The signing took place in Cape Town on Monday during the 20th anniversary celebration of the science and technology agreement between SA and the EU.Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor said the blue economy in the South African context was a national priority."The signing of this declaration facilitates research co-operation that will be of benefit to SA as well as the region.
