While the market hailed the family’s decision to step back from operational activities, one may ask whether the new CEO, Mteto Nyati, is the right person to steer Altron into the future. He had a stint at MTN, including nearly two years as CEO of MTN SA. He took over in mid-2015, when operations in SA were plagued by network failure, customer complaints and a strike.The Competition Commission’s inquiry into the retail market in groceries was supposed to have been done and dusted by May 29 2017, with a complete report published including recommendations for the sector. But now the public hearings, originally scheduled for February, have been postponed to between May and July. Commission spokesman Sipho Ngwema says key members of the panel have personal and family emergencies that need urgent attention.
