BORN in Soweto and brought up in Orlando East, Karabo Mathang-Tshabuse considers herself lucky to have had a large backyard that allowed for "lots of adventure and fun"."I could not sit still as a young child," says the mother of two. "I was always outdoors on a bike or something. I was a well-balanced child and could play street cricket with the boys, with tomato crates as our wickets."Unfortunately, given her status as what she describes as a "useless athlete", she gave up playing sport when she reached high school. Instead, she would sit with her father as he watched cricket and soccer games."My love for soccer came from a mixture of things, from my father, to living in my community and, occasionally, playing ‘one-pal’ (a form of soccer) in the streets.
