SOUTH Africa’s former ambassador to the Ukraine, Stanley Mathabatha, was on Thursday sworn in as the new premier of Limpopo.Mr Mathabatha was sworn in during a special meeting of the Limpopo legislature. He replaces Cassel Mathale, who resigned from his position on Monday after he was recalled by the African National Congress (ANC) at the weekend.Mr Mathale will now head to Parliament.The ANC has expressed gratitude for the former premier’s leadership in the province, saying earlier this week that he left behind a "prosperous, thriving and stable province notwithstanding some of the challenges experienced in recent times".In 2011, the central government placed five Limpopo departments under administration, including the provincial treasury, after governance was threatened by the province’s near-bankruptcy.The Democratic Alliance (DA) on Thursday assured the new premier of its full support, but urged him to fire two provincial officials — transport MEC Pinky Kekana and education MEC ...
