History will be very clear about Shaun Abrahams’s role in bringing charges against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan that were, by all accounts, laughable in both their timing and substance. He did so in a very public manner, knowing full well that the damage to the markets, the economy, SA’s reputation and to the people of the country would be immense. The full scale of the damage will probably never be known, but we know for certain that it will continue for a long time. As far as I can tell, South African courts have defined treason as follows: "Any overt act committed by a person owing allegiance to a state ... with the unlawful, hostile intent to overthrow, impair, violate, threaten or endanger the existence, independence or security of the state or to overthrow or coerce the government of the state or change the constitutional structure of the state." The issue of whether Abrahams is competent aside, will someone please explain to us how the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) ...
