The final round of the Sasol GTC Championship visited the East London Grand Prix circuit last weekend. Championship leader Michael Stephen (Engen Audi A3 GTC) finished fifth and ninth respectively in the day’s two races, earning him the points needed to claim the overall title. The weekend didn’t get off to a good start for Stephen, however, who suffered a blown engine in free practice on Friday morning. A loan unit from their sister company, Volkswagen, was secured and he went out and claimed a dominant pole position, ahead of his team-mate Simon Moss. The Sasol GTC Racing Team’s BMWs of Gennaro Bonafede and Hennie Groenewald started in second and third spots respectively, followed by the two Volkswagen Jetta GTCs of Mathew Hodges and Graeme Nathan in fourth and fifth.
