Bruce’s List: A guide to informed reads.Physically it’s easy to tell the difference between Donald Trump and Jacob Zuma. Except maybe, their small hands. If it were dark and a pair of hands grabbed you by the neck from behind you wouldn’t know which of them it was. Philosophically though, the similarities between the two leaders are rather striking. Neither cares a jot for the constitution under which they function. Zuma, as we already know, has been in breach of the SA constitution and got away with it. Trump is most certainly in breach but Americans have been so shocked by his dizzying 10 days of executive mayhem they have not yet been able fully to respond. Moves to impeach Trump will soon start all over the place though whether they get anywhere remains to be seen. But no president of the US can expect not only to not reveal his tax returns and, also, to do private business with the governments of foreign powers while he is in the White House and to get away with it scot-free.
