In April this year, chief justice Raymond Zondo declared, in part 4 of the state capture inquiry report, that former president Jacob Zuma opened the doors for the Gupta family to “help themselves to the money and assets of the people of SA”. He said Zuma was central to the Gupta family’s “scheme of state capture” and that they used him “against the people of SA, his own country and his own government to advance their own business interests”.

It is a devastating conclusion. It tells you that we did not have a president in SA. We had a puppet. He was being used against all of us. This is what Zuma meant by radical economic transformation: I’ll bend over backwards for anyone who feathers my nest...
