PETER BRUCE: How to say you’re sorry
When you’ve made a mistake, own up as soon as possible and move on
I had the terrible experience the other day of making a mistake. In print. I don’t know how other journalists feel about their errors of simple fact but mine (and I’ve made a few) always make me nauseated.
This time, in a column for Business Day, I had written that current Eskom executive chair Jabu Mabuza shouldn’t do the job while he was also still chair of Telkom. Of course, he had resigned as chair of Telkom in February. About 500 people, including my wife, drew my attention to the mistake.
