The Sowetan newspaper reports that Gupta family representatives were 'hauled over the coals' by top ANC leaders at a meeting at Luthuli House on Monday where they were asked to explain their political influence over ANC leaders.The report said ANC secretary general, Gwede Mantashe, had confirmed the meeting with representatives of Gupta companies including Ajay Gupta, the president's son, Duduzane Zuma and Moegsien Williams among others.Mantashe was quoted as saying: "We did not meet a family, we met a company" and that this was one of many companies which the party met. They would also meet Glencore and Anglo American.But the article went on to say: "Mantashe said they put the allegations against the Gupta companies and that they were all responded to."The newspaper also said that ANC deputy secretary general, Jessie Duarte, had been made to explain why her relative, Ian Whitley, had been appointed chief of staff in the office of minister of cooperative governance and traditional a...
