President Jacob Zuma is the first polygamist leader this country has ever had, he married six times and has 22 children.

His older children are focusing on their careers ranging from television production to working in the public sector.

We take a look at who Zuma’s children are:

Mziwoxolo Edward Zuma - 1977

Born in 1977, Edward is the president’s eldest and the most vocal about the support for his father.

His mother is Minah Shongwe, she never got married to Zuma.

He is not a stranger to controversy. Edward was arrested and accused of raping a 17-year-old woman from University of Zululand in 2000. The charges were withdrawn allegedly after reaching an amicable solution with the girl.

He also came under fire recently for publicly announcing that he supported King Goodwill Zwelithini's remarks that foreigners should be deported from South Africa.

Mxolisi Saddy Zuma - 1980

Tries by all means to stay out of media sight.

He was born in 1980 in Mozambique by mother Kate Montsho who died in 2000 allegedly from an overdose of sleeping tablets and malaria pills.

Saddy was born during Zuma’s exile days and is the eldest of Montsho’s five children.

He has business interests in six investment and broker companies. Five of which he joined after Zuma became the country’s president in 2009.

Msholozi Zuma - 1982

The president’s eldest daughter and took up his clan name.

She was born in 1982 from Zuma’s marriage to the now African Union chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

There isn’t much known about her activities expect that she was embarrassed at a school in 2013 with her father when she was told that she was not on the voter’s roll. It is reported that Zuma explained that she was born in exile and was soon allowed to register.

Duduzile Zuma - 1984

Second child from Zuma and Kate Montsho’s marriage, born in 1984 with her famous twin brother Duduzane.

She is famous for her bling lifestyle, from a 600-guest birthday party with open tab and luxurious champagne in 2009 to a five-year lavish wedding to businessman Lonwabo Sambudla that reportedly ended in 2015, Duduzile has done it all.

She is also known for her love for her father after sticking by his side and giving crucial evidence in his rape trial.

Duduzane Zuma - 1984

The controversial pride of Zuma’s empire has ties to dozens of companies that he joined when daddy became the leader of the ANC and subsequently the first citizen of the country.

He has been linked to the Gupta family where he has been part of the Oakbay Investments until recently when news of possible ‘state capture’ surrounding the controversial family.

JIC Mining, Afripalm Horizon, Imperial Crown Trading, Dunrose Investments, Karibu Hospitality, Mabengela Investments, Westdawn Investments, Shiva Uranium and Sahara Holdings are just some of the companies he is tied with.

He came into the spotlight in 2014 when he drove into a minibus taxi, which resulted in a woman being killed and 3 people injured.

Gugulethu Zuma - 1985

The celebrity of the family and has genuine love for television.

She became famous after her appearance on the popular drama Isidingo where she played Lesedi Moloi.

Born in 1985, she is Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s second daughter and has made it crystal clear that she is not interested in politics.

Gugu’s controversy came into the spotlight when eThekwini Municipality spent R5million on the SABC1 drama, Uzalo, where she is a director.

Nokuthula Nomaqhawe Zuma - 1987

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s third daughter, a University of KwaZulu-Natal graduate.

She holds a Masters degree in Economics from UKZN and another Masters degree in Public Policy Management from Wits University.

Born in 1987, she reportedly has ties to four companies and works in the Presidency.

Thuthukile Xolile Nomonde Zuma - 1989

Holds a BA honours in Anthropology and was the Chief of Staff at the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services, a position she reportedly resigned from in December.

Born in 1989, She previously held a position at the Ministry of State Security as the liaison officer.

Fourth Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s daughter from her marriage to the president that ended in 1998.

She was reported to have secured a lucrative deal to transport diesel for the parastal, Petro SA, in Mossel Bay.

Phumzile Zuma - 1989

There isn’t much known about Phumzile besides her love for Science, she graduated from Wits University and became a Scientologist.

She was born in 1989 from Zuma’s marriage to Kate Montsho.

Nhlakanipho Vusi Zuma - 1993

Born in 1993 from Zuma’s marriage to Kate Montsho and is the youngest from that marriage.

Thandisiwe Zuma - 2002

Born in 2002 from Zuma’s marriage to Nompulelo ‘MaNtuli’ Ntuli.

Was reportedly in an accident with her two other siblings in 2015. They all survived.

Sinqobile Zuma - 2006

Born in 2006 from Zuma’s marriage to Nompulelo ‘MaNtuli’ Ntuli.

Was reportedly in an accident with her two other siblings in 2015. They all survived.

Sinqumo Zuma - 2006

Born in 2006 from Zuma’s marriage to Bongi Ngema Zuma.

Two unnamed children

There are two children, a son and a daughter, that Zuma allegedly fathered with an unnamed Johannesburg woman.

Nqobile and Mbalizo - 2007

Zuma also has a child with Thobeka Madiba Zuma born in 2007. As far as her Instagram account is concerned, her kids’ names are Nqonqo and Mbalizo. It is not clear who amongst the two is from his previous marriage.

Thandekile Matina Zuma - 2010

Jacob Zuma confirmed in 2010 that he fathered a son with Sonono, Irvin Khoza’s daughter.


Zuma allegedly fathered a child named Bridget with an unnamed Johannesburg woman. The child is said to be living with Thobeka Madiba Zuma. It is not clear when the child was born.

Manqoba Kholwani Zuma - 2010

Born in 2010 from Zuma’s marriage to MaNtuli. Was reportedly in an accident with her two other siblings in 2015. They all survived.


Reportedly fathered by Zuma with a woman from Richard’s bay.
