Indeed, SA fans will have experienced a sense of déjà vu as the Proteas bombed out of the 2016 World Twenty20 in India after the Super 10 stage.Based on the team’s form in the preceding 12 months, few would have backed the Proteas to go all the way and claim the crown. That said, even fewer would have predicted an early exit before the semifinals.SA lost their opening fixture to England. They battled past a spirited Afghanistan outfit in the second game, and were given a lesson in T20 cricket by a well balanced West Indies side in the third. Though the Proteas won their fourth and final fixture against Sri Lanka by an eight-wicket margin, that victory should be remembered in context. Both SA and Sri Lanka went into the match knowing that they had zero chance of qualifying for the play-offs.
