I need a holiday. This year is too frenetic, too busy, too action packed, even for a lover of news and political crises like me. I just can’t take it. Donald Trump is about to walk into the White House. That alone is enough to make you want to find a small island and hunker down to spare yourself the embarrassment of being part of humanity. Then our dear President Jacob Zuma, who used to bleat on and on about how the ANC tradition was for the deputy president to succeed the president, says that actually there is no such tradition. Clearly speaking with forked tongue is not something he has forgotten during his Christmas break. Zuma also avoided the World Economic Forum in Davos this year. Old Cyril Ramaphosa is looking as if he might just run for president. And Baleka Mbete wants the top job too, she says.And that’s just the first two weeks. The year’s political calendar is a mess already. On February 9 Zuma will address the nation and we will all jump up and down and call him names...
