Artist and stylist Mariette Theron on Saxonwold, Johannesburg.How long have you lived in Saxonwold?Twenty years.What originally attracted you to the suburb?We loved the house, especially the beautiful tree in the garden. The area had larger, family homes that we were looking for and, although it was a big move back then, we have never looked back.How has it changed in the time you have lived there?Not much at all. There are always older people moving out of the area to downsize and younger families moving in, and some properties have been subdivided, but the character hasn’t changed.How would you describe Saxonwold to someone who has never visited it?It’s a beautiful, established old suburb with wide streets and a forest feel from the mature trees, some of which join to form archways over the road. There are little treasures that locals love, like the man who walks around pushing his trolley covered in CDs and colourful ribbons.Anywhere that’s a must-visit?Take a walk in the streets...
