Architect Pieter Mathews on Brooklyn, Pretoria.How long have you lived in Brooklyn?Twenty-one years.What attracted you to the suburb?It’s an older, established suburb with plenty of trees and foliage and the jacarandas in flower are gorgeous. I love the fact that you really see the seasons changing in Brooklyn. The central location, close to the university and good schools, was also a factor.How has it changed in the time you have lived there?It has densified. Large properties have been subdivided to make room for two or three houses and townhouse complexes have sprung up. Several embassies have been established in Brooklyn and there has been some business-creep.How would you describe your suburb to someone who has never visited it?It’s a good mix of old and new.Where is the best spot for a cuppa or a meal?For coffee with a view, the Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary is lovely and there are several new boutique coffee shops in the area, including the Ginger and Fig Eatery.Anywhere that’...
