Mteto Nyati and Sung Hyuck Yoon are two of the most accomplished technology executives to have worked in SA. Sung was most recently the CEO of Samsung Africa, having been a Samsung executive for several decades, which included many years in the US. Nyati has been MD of Microsoft SA, MTN SA and Altron, and is a former IBM executive.

Yet last week communications minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni bizarrely voted against them (and others) as members of Telkom’s board. The reason related to “several male directors”...
