I miss Thuli Madonsela, our saintly former public protector. Not because she fought the good fight but for the way she did. Her replacement, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, is patently unworthy of the office and is equally patently, in my humble opinion, politically biased in the work she does. Her hounding of former finance minister Pravin Gordhan (and the request, which I’ll get to in a minute, which prompted her new probe) are obviously partisan and anti-democratic. What Madonsela knew better than anyone I’ve seen in the whole state capture calamity, was how to do an investigation. It’s why the Zondo Commission is now sitting. Because she did her investigation into state capture right. I was thinking about some of the reports making the news in the past few weeks. The looting of VBS Mutual Bank is the most prominent, because it sort of implicates politicians and parties. But we’ve also seen reports into Prasa and Transnet and no doubt there’ll be others into Eskom soon. And these reports all...
