Gupta lawyer not going to court over Thuli Madonsela’s report — yet
But Gert van der Merwe says he might still go to court, depending on what the report says
A lawyer for the Gupta family said on Wednesday that he would not be going to court to prevent the release of Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s report into state capture.Gert van der Merwe did‚ however‚ warn that should it contain "adverse conclusions" about his clients‚ he would "go to court and take that report on review".Van der Merwe told Radio 702 he was concerned Madonsela’s report was a "final report" and not a "preliminary report".The latter would have afforded his clients a chance to respond to claims made in it‚ he said.He said: "I have confidence that the Office of the Public Protector has always done good work. I have no reason to believe there is a sinister plan behind what she is doing."This was softer language than that contained in a letter he wrote to Madonsela this week‚ which said: "If you choose to include that my clients were in any way whatsoever involved in inappropriate conduct under circumstances where we have tendered evidence to the contrary and under cir...
