The coronavirus has radically altered the diaries of multinational executives. Sanlam’s Irish CEO, Ian Kirk, may not run a global company on the scale of an Apple or Coca-Cola, but over the next six weeks he has had to cancel his regular trip to India, where Sanlam has substantial operations, as well as an agent’s junket to Singapore. No doubt that well-run island state was chosen as it is usually one of the safest and healthiest places in the world.

This must be frustrating for Kirk, who could do with a little sunshine. He was brought up to believe that good weather was a nice soft Dublin drizzle...
