Spacs: Slow out of the blocks
Special purpose acquisition companies have yet to properly take off on the JSE. But interest is on the rise

Special purpose acquisition companies (Spacs) are newcomers to the JSE, and they have been slow to capture the imagination of investors. This could change soon. "I see a lot of potential for Spacs," says Prejelin Naggan, the JSE’s head of primary markets. "An increasing number of entrepreneurs contemplating a Spac [listing] are coming to speak to us." At the moment, six Spacs have been listed on the JSE.
