In 2016, advocate John Myburgh published a damning report on management and accounting practices at microlender African Bank, which collapsed into curatorship in 2014.

Myburgh had been commissioned by former Reserve Bank governor Gill Marcus to examine why the bank collapsed, and his report presented just the ammunition the auditing regulator believed it needed to nail African Bank’s auditor Deloitte.
