South African futures were lower on Monday as the market followed a weaker close on the JSE. The JSE all share ended the day 0.74% lower at 50,769 points. The blue-chip top 40 lost 0.91%. Banks and financials recovered from weaker levels in late trade with the gold index and industrials closing weaker. The gold price was 0.41% up at $1,255 an ounce after the JSE’s close. Brent oil shed 1.15% to $51,39 a barrel. Banks rose 0.85% and financials added 0.18%. The gold index shed 1.32% and industrials weakened 1.18%. At 5.54pm, the Dow Jones industrial average was 0.19% weaker at 18,104.66 points. At the same time, the local near-dated top-40 Alsi futures index was 1.07% lower at 44,550 points, with 20,418 contracts traded from 33,746 on Friday.
