A Johannesburg council meeting degenerated into chaos on Thursday as ANC councillors hurled insults at EFF councillors over their relationship with the DA. At the centre of the tiff was the ANC, saying the EFF had married the DA after the local elections in August. "The EFF as an organisation exists in its own right," said an EFF councillor as he demanded that council speaker Vasco da Gama order the ANC to withdraw the comment. The councillors in the chamber shouted that they would withdraw the comment but instead replaced it with another. "Actually, it’s a ‘vat ‘n sit’, not a marriage," they shouted, laughing as members of the EFF stood up, heckling and demanding that Da Gama resign. A ‘vat ‘n sit’ is a cohabitation relationship between unmarried couples. "It can’t be that we come here to get insulted and you don’t make an [order]," said EFF councillor Musa Novela.
