DA leader Mmusi Maimane called fraud charges against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan "bogus" and demanded an inquiry into National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Shaun Abrahams. Speaking to residents of Ward 39 in Soshanguve on Monday, Maimane said President Jacob Zuma should suspend Abrahams and Parliament needed to start an inquiry into his fitness to hold office. The NPA earlier withdrew the summons against Gordhan and former South African Revenue Service officials Oupa Magashula and Ivan Pillay. "Those charges were made up in the first place. What has become quite clear is that Shaun Abrahams is not there to protect the public, neither is he there to deal with public prosecutions. He is sent there by Jacob Zuma, for the purpose of the president’s protection," said Maimane.
